Being Poor in Spirit

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:3

This is something I've read many times, but never really thought about or completely understood what it meant, to be poor in spirit.  But I now know because of the chapter called "A desperate and pursuing heart" from the book "Do You Think I'm Beautiful?" by Angela Thomas (girl book, very good!)

here's the passage that explains being poor in spirit:
"The kingdom of heaven.  That's where God the Father keeps His wealth and treasure.  The kingdom of heaven is where we find grace and mercy.  The kingdom of heaven is where hearts get mended and bodies get healed.  The kingdom of heaven is where we dance in the arms of our Beloved.  My heart longs for that peace and stillness of heaven being near.....Jesus says that that place-- the arms of God, the presence of God, His nearness to us, the kingdom-- is a blessing that comes to the poor in spirit.  Blessed means that you and I have been approved by God.  He is pleased.  We are acting in a way that gives Him honor.  We have truely found His heart in a matter.  I deeply desire God's blessing.  Sometimes in the Bible poor means "without funds" or "without the ability to aquire goods."...In this case, when Jesus said poor, He meant utterly destitute, poverty stricken, helpless.  And so Jesus is saying, God approves of those who know poverty of spirit, and He gives them the fullness of His presence.  But what is this "poverty of spirit"?  What does it mean to be utterly destitute?  It means that we are wholly needy, flat-broke beggars with no resources available.  It means that you and I have been honest with God and come to realize that we are without an ounce of hope if left to our own designs.  This is deperate poverty.....When we have looked inside our souls and truly seen that there is nothing good there.......Real poverty is not polite.  It is determined to get the object of it's need by whatever means necessary.  When there is real poverty, there is desperation, and we cry out to be fed or we will surely die.  God says that's what it means to be poor in spirit....So hungry for Him that we'll do anything to get to Him.  God says that He approves of those with that kind of desperation.  He gives to them the kingdom of heaven, the fullness of His riches, the peace of His presence, and a hope for the future."

that totally explains it for me haha.  He wants us to be desperate and pursue Him because it shows that we know that He is the one and only that can satisfy.  He gives us the fullness of His presence and His kingdom when we seek Him in our poorness of spirit. :)

Thank You Lord! :D
anyways I hope that blessed you in some way! have a nice day :)

I have really awesome news! :)

So...The Press Enterprise has an art show every year in the Riverside Art Museum in Downtown Riverside and they feature not only the art of adult professional artists, but they also feature art from high school students.......

anyways my art teacher chose one of my pieces!!! and its in the Riverside Art Museum!!!! right now!!! as I type!!!!!! hahaaha

Its the one pictured right there and I'm so excited because my art's never been featured anywhere other than my school library.  I can't wait to see what the Lord's going to do with my art in the future, I'm thinking this is just the beginning!
I think it would be cool if I went to the museum and looked around and if I caught someone looking at mine, I could ask them what they think and not say who I was haha I've always wanted to do that.....lol

but yeah if you're ever downtown sometime and you have a chance you totally should go see!! if you want.

I don't know when the actual reception is but I'll find out :) but you can still come at anytime I think

It's been such an encouragement to have Mrs. Anthony as my art teacher, not only does she teach me all about what I love to do, but she loves the Lord and uses her art to glorify Him. She's awesome....she designed the Jesus fish bumper thing!!!!! that's crazy!!!!!!

but yeah, thank you for reading, I'm so excited!! maybe I'll be able to explain the painting to someone and they could come to know the Lord...you never know! haha

so how are you today? :)

Awesome Idea :)

well my prom for my school is Saturday, April 18th and its at the Disneyland Resort Hotel and I was thinking, well....I don't want to spend all that money to stand around inside a hotel ballroom and do nothing, around people I barely know and witness their "shananagans".... by myself...

....it would be cool to stay in the hotel someday though, that sounds like fun....

so I'm thinking I'll just go to Disneyland for that day with friends or my sister or whatever and not pay anything because I have a pass :D

yay! way better!! So I'll see if it works out! If you have a pass you should come!!!!!!!!! let's make a day of it!!!
sounds like fun....yes....maybe?.....hahaha

well Disneyland is always fun for me and I'm excited

thank you for reading my random blog, How are you today? :)

Pastor Ralph

I just thought I would share some happy memories I had in knowing Ralph and how he affected my life.

Ralph was always a huge blessing in the lives of everyone in my family.  He always displayed the joy of the Lord through his actions, even in the simplest of things. When I was little, I loved it when he played worship at the home bible study we hosted years ago and that was one of my favorite things about those bible studies, singing along to those fun songs :)

Him and his family always made sure I was able to go to the crusade and it was always a blessing to go with them.

I remember once Ralph was dropping Andrea (his step-daughter) and I off at church and as we were walking away from the car he jokingly said "bye girls! and remember, all boys are ugly!" hahahahahahaha  Ralph was very funny. :)

Also, he always made sure I had a ride home from Day7.  On our way to my house he would always ask me how my whole family was doing and everything.

Once Ralph was talking to me about Brian and April when they got together and he told me "at first I wasn't sure about Brian because of his piercings and such, but after I met him, I wanted some!!"  hahahahaha :)

He dedicated Abby, He came to every birthday he could like Aprils 18th and my 16th and many others, he took the time to write a letter of recommendation for me

he did my parents vow renewal last month!! such a blessing and honor

I can't express how thankful I am for Ralph, he's done so much for my family and I and gave so much of his time for us and countless others he has affected.  He was an amazing reflection of the Lord Jesus  and I'm going to miss him very very much
Please be praying continually for Cheri, Andrea, Caleb, Tommy, and David.

He's in heaven with Jesus...there's no better place to be! :)
